Day 3: Zion Narrows

Zion Narrows “Bottom Up”

Our last day at Zion! We ended up doing The Narrows – one of the world’s best slot canyon hikes that you will never forget. Between the both of us, we agreed that this was our favorite hike out of all the ones we did in Zion.

We rented neoprene socks and canyoneering boots for $25/person at Zion Outfitters, just outside of the gates. I would definitely recommend renting these if you are planning on doing this hike since the rocks can be very slippery and sometimes the current can be strong going against it, so these boots provided a lot of grip. It is also nice not having to walk around in wet socks and shoes afterwards. However, we did see some people doing this hike in their water sandals and even Nike’s. So, it is possible, if you are wondering. Maybe not comfortable, but doable. Since the lines for the shuttle were massive, we rented them the night before our hike in order to save time. It is also right next to the Zion Canyon Brewpub, so Jordan & I grabbed some beer and a nice dinner before heading back into our campsite (are we really camping?).

As we weaved through the canyon, it was a beautiful oasis in the middle of the desert. There were trees, hanging wall gardens, and huge swimming holes to jump in. I definitely felt small hiking in between these huge slot canyons. Compared to the 104 degree weather, being in the slot canyons provided a lot of shade. So it was in the mid to high 70’s and the water was estimated to be in the mid 60’s.

We hiked about 5 miles into the canyon and there was so much to see. About 2.5 miles in, you reach where the canyon walls really start to get narrow and from there, we just kept going until we realized that we need to hike back down the river and it was already mid afternoon. We stopped a few times to jump into some swimming holes, snacks, take a lot of pictures, and make lunch. There were times when the water was up to our chests!

Since it was our last night, we wanted to relax back at our campsite before waking up early to head to Bryce Canyon the next day! I compiled a video of all of our Zion hikes 🙂 Hope you guys enjoy!!!
